Incompetent Doctors & Therapists Everywhere

I recently witnessed another frightening example of the incompetence that is rife in the medical system. My client, Chris Spence, got a bad neck adjustment from a rushed Chiro. The adjustment appeared to cause a bulged disc and neck sprain. Unfortunately the bulge impinged on the nerve causing Chris horrendous pain and complete loss of feeling down his left arm.

Doctors did the only thing they know how: doped Chris unconscious with opiates and then ran a variety of tests to validate that there was nothing they could do.

Other therapists did absolutely nothing except invent cock-and-bull theories about systemic inflammation and deficiency blah blah. Useless and ineffective, as always.

So Chris visited the surgeon the Doctor had hand-balled him onto. The surgeons solution: life changing surgery. It was stressed there was NO alternative. The ONLY solution – apparently – was to remove the discs and fuse the cervical vertebrae. No more training. And probably no more talking or breathing the same, given the added complexity of getting through Chris’ muscular neck. But there was no other choice.

Chris Spence got a bad neck adjustment. The doctor doped him unconscious on opiates. The surgeon insisted on removing the discs and fusing the cervical vertebrae. Dr Titus fixed him with a massage, stretch and competent adjustment.

Chris, being ungrateful and unreasonable for thinking that a life time of dribbling in bed on opiates was not part of his life plan, sought a better solution. Particularly after I told him: “Chris, its an acute problem and nothing is broken. Therefore there is a simple solution, despite the pain seeming otherwise. You had a bad adjustment. So your neck is out and it needs to be put back. The muscles are in spasm and need to be released. Its a bulged disc. Despite what the incompetent doctors make out, its just not a big issue! It just needs the right treatment from someone competent”.

After 8 weeks off work, training and living, Chris finally got in to see Dr Terrence Titus of Capalaba Chiropractic (www.capalabachiropractic.com.au).

As is so often the case with Terrence, one visit and the problem diagnosed and solved. For Chris, Terrence released the muscles enough to adjust the neck. Then it was a case of stretch, competent deep tissue massage and get back to exercise. The pain was dramatically reduced within 30 minutes of treatment and continued to ease since. Now Chris is back training.

Competent treatment is a massive problem these days; especially for an athlete. It just does not exist! Doctors and therapists – like Personal Trainers – are taught to treat everyone like a terminal geriatric cripple. Chris’ surgeon wanted to cut him open and remove the discs in his neck, to fix a bad neck adjustment!? There is seemingly no critical thinking; just hysterical worst-case hypotheticals; except when it really is serious and then it gets brushed off.

What do you do? Be afraid. Be very afraid. The worst possible problem with getting sick or injured is that you enter a dysfunctional system full of incompetent people. This post isn’t to give you hope or a solution. There isn’t any. Its to reinforce awareness. Be cynical; your suspicion is probably justified. Whatever you are told is probably BS. And if what you are told involves a solution based on a story far more complicated than what caused the problem, its a 99.9% certainty its BS!
